dextros can cause tissue necrosisis
what is the avgrage restpration time of concious state after IV dextrose?
5-15 minutes
can be longer than 15 minutes
what can be done iafter giving 25g of IV dextrose the paitent remains altered concious state?
consult for more if BGL remains lower than 4 mmol/l
if a paitent has had a known insulin overdose what should be done?
even if BGL is greater than 4 comsult for IV dextrose
what should be advised to the paitent in regards to eating and their next meal?
eat a long acting carbohydrate to sustain BGL until next meal
what to do if a paitenet refuses transport?
if paitent fully recovered- treat and refer pathway
if pt still refuses transport then document and leave in care of third party and advise next steps

consider other ccauses such as stroke, seizure or hypovolemia
what to do if BGL is less than 4 and paitent is obeying commans?
15g oral glucose paste - repateafter 15 mins if inadequate response or consider IV dextrose/IM glucagon
what to do if the person isnt obeying commands?
IV- large bore in large vein
Dextrose 10% 150ml - 15g flush with 10ml normal saline - repate 10g 100ml at 5-10 minutes if needed and flsuh with 10ml normal saline
if unable to insert IV
Glucagon 1 IU IM
what are the contraindications for glucose, dextrose and glucagon?
nill
what is the treatment for a peadiatric paitent obeing commands with a bgl less tahn 4 ?
15 g oral glucose repated at 15 minutes if inadequate response max 30g
what is the treatment for a peadiatric paitent not obeing commands with a bgl less than 4?
