Nerves AHS1 Flashcards
What is the name for the network of nerves that supply the forelimb?
The brachial plexus
What nerve suppples the diaphragm?
The phrenic nerve
What do the ventral rami of the thoracic spinal nerves form?
The intercostal nerves
Run caudally to the ribs
What can be seen running alongside the spine?
The sympathetic chain ganglia
What is sympathetic outflow called?
Thoracolumbar outflow
What is the big ganglion called for sympathetic nerve fibres to synapse at?
The stellate (cervicothoracic) ganglion (paired)
What is the slightly smaller ganglion called for sympathetic nerve fibres to synapse at?
The middle cervical ganglion
What connects the stellate ganglion and the middle cervical ganglion?
The ansa subclavia
Where is the ansa subclavia found?
It loops around the subclavian artery
What does the vagus nerve do?
Supplies parasympathetic nerve fibres (paired)
What comes off of the vagus nerve?
The recurrent laryngeal nerve
What does the recurrent laryngeal nerve do?
Runs back up neck to innervate the larynx
What does the vago-sympathetic trunk do?
Vagus nerve runs down it
Pre-ganglionic sympathetic fibres run up it to the head
What sympathetic nerves innervate the abdomen and pelvis?
Splanchnic nerves
What parasympathetic nerves supply the abdomen?
The dorsal and ventral vagal trunks where the vagus nerve splits
Pelvic nerves from spinal cord
