What does the eyepiece/ ocular lens do
A cylinder contains two or more lenses- these lenses are held at the correct working distance and this is where you look through to observe cells placed on slide. It helps to bring the object into focus partially.
What is the coarse adjustment screw
The coarse adjustment screw is used for the initial focus of an object
What is the fine adjustment screw
The fine adjustment screw is used for the final and clear focus of the object
What is the revolving nose piece
The revolving nose piece holds the objectives in place so that they can rotate and be changed easily.
What is the objective (lens)
These magnifies the object
The three objectives usually are
4x magnification
10x magnification
40x magnification
What is the frame
A rigid structure for stability.
It is supported by a U shaped foot leading to the base of the microscope.
What is the stage
The microscope slide is placed here
The stage contains a clip or clips to prevent the slide from moving around
What is the light source
The source of light provided so that the slide can be seen
What is the diaphragm / condenser
The diaphragm and the condenser control the amount of light being let through the slide
