What are the levels to organisation within an ecosystem (what is the food chain order)
Producers
Primary consumers
Secondary consumers
Tertiary consumers
What are producers?
These are mainly green plants which produces glucose via photosynthesising— primary consumers often graze on producers as well as some secondary consumers
What are primary consumers?
These usually eat plant material and often are herbivores
What are secondary consumers?
These usually eat primary consumers or producers so are often omnivores — cats dogs foxes
What are tertiary consumers?
These eat the secondary consumers and are often carnivores
Define ‘prey’
The animals eaten by predators
Define ‘scavengers’
These feed on dead animals like crows vultures and hyenas
Define ‘decomposers’
These feed on dead / decaying organisms and on the undigested parts of plant and animal matter in faeces— usually bacteria or fungi
