4.1.1.2 animal and plant cells Flashcards
Most animal cells have what?
-nuclei
-cytoplasm
-cell membrane
-mitochondria
-ribosomes
Most plant cells have:
-nuclei
-cytoplasm
-cell membrane
-mitochondria
-ribosomes
-Chloroplasts
-A permanent vacuole filled with cell sap.
Plant and algal cells also have a cell wall made of _________, which strengthens the cell.
Cellulose
What does a cell wall do
Surrounds the cell membrane and increases the structural strength of the cell.
What do chloroplasts do
Contains the pigment chlorophyll which absorbs light energy, photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts.
What do vacuoles do
Store nutrients and water; the cell relies on it for life. This makes up most of the volume of the cell.
What does cytoplasm do
The gelatinous fluid inside of a cell, providing a platform for other organelles to operate on.
What does mitochondria do
Aerobic respiration takes place here, this uses glucose and oxygen to release energy.
What does the nucleus do
Contains chromosomes, containing genetic material, controls and regulates the cells activity.
What do ribosomes do
Responsible for synthesising the proteins.
What is flagella
(Prokaryotic bacterium) which has whip like structures used for movement.
