How are tumours formed
A
when changes take place in genes or in damaged / abnormal cells when they should which leads to uncontrolled growth and repair

What are benign tumours?
A
Growth of abnormal cells found in one area which are often contained in a membrane, they don’t invade other parts of the body so do not spread.

What are malignant tumours?
A
These invade neighbouring tissues and move into the bloodstream. They are classed as a cancer. They create new secondary tumours elsewhere in the body.

What are the risk factors for cancer ?
A
- genetically obtained (breast cancer eg)
-lifestyle (lungs from smoking)
-substances in the environment or body (radon is a radioactive gas which leads to uncontrolled cell division)
