4.4.2 aerobic and anaerobic respiration Flashcards
State the equation for aerobic respiration
Oxygen + glucose = carbon dioxide + water + energy
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose = lactic acid + energy
What is the equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water ———-> (with light and chlorophyll) ———> glucose and oxygen + energy
What is the iodine test
This test tests for starch.
Cover the leaf completely in iodine
If starch is present a blue / black colour will become visible.
State characteristics of aerobic respiration
Uses oxygen
Is slower than anaerobic
Produces more energy
State characteristics of anaerobic respiration
Takes faster
Produces little energy
Produces lactic acid, causing muscle pains and stitches.
What does metabolism include
Respiration
Breakdown of excess proteins to form urea
Conversion of glucose into starch, glycogen and cellulose
Formation of lipid molecules from a molecule of glycerol and three molecules of fatty acids
The use of glucose and nitrate ions to form amino acids which, in turn, are used to synthesise proteins.
