BM in 12h PO, 1h PO
very STRONG, very harsh
lactulose
osmotic - helps intestines excrete ammonia
expensive, flatulence, cramping, dehydration
issues w/laxative overuse
dehydration
electrolyte imbalances
loss of nml defecation reflex
polyethylene glycol 3350 w/electrolytes
osmotic (pulls water)
used for bowel surgery or colonoscopy
massive diarrhea, dehydration
pts must drink 1 gallon, may mix w/clear flavoring
