Homogeneous Mixture Flashcards
What is a Homogeneous Mixture?
A mixture that is mixed evenly. It is difficult to tell what is in the mixture or whether it is a mixture at all.
What is a Solution?
A Solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. The solute is the substance that is being dissolved. The solvent is the substance doing the dissolving, in excess.
How many types of Solutions are there?
Nine types of solutions are theoretically possible using te three states of matter. (no solid dissolved in gas or liquid dissolved in gas).
What is the most common type of Solution?
The most common type of Solution is a Solution where liquid water is the solvent.
What is the Solution Terminology?
Solubility - how much solute can dissolve in a given amount of solvent at a given temperature.
Quantitative - maximum amount of solute / amount of solvent.
Qualitative - soluble or insoluble.
What are Miscible Liquids?
Miscible liquids are liquids that can always dissolve in each other.
___ describes the quantity of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of solvent at a given temperature.
Solubility.
