Heterogeneous Mixture Flashcards
What are Suspensions?
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture which settles on standing and its components can be separated by filtration.
What is a Colloid?
A heterogeneous mixture that is mixed slightly better. The contents can only slightly be seen. Milk is an example of a colloid.
What is a Semipermeable Membrane?
A semipermeable membrane is essentially a molecular filter. The contents of a colloid will not separate through one.
What is the Solute?
The dispersed particles.
What is the Solvent?
The dispersion medium.
What is Dialysis?
A type of semipermeable membrane. Dialysis is used for blood, which is also a colloid.
What is the Tyndall Effect?
An effect that states that a colloid will scatter light.
