Painful abdomen
Photosensitisation
What are the most routinely studied liver enzymes?
ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, SDH
What is ALT associated with?
Typically associated with a chronic hepatitis
What is AST associated with?
leakage means hepatocellular inury
What is ALP associated with?
Biliary disease or drug induction
What is GGT?
*Biliary disease or drug
induction, primary hepatic
neoplasia, advanced
necroinflammatopry disease
Increased related to
impaired bile flow
How does the bile acid starvation test work?
Starve for 12 hours
Sample blood
Feed animal
Wait for 2 hours
Sample blood
When will bile acid concentrations be increased?
Hepatocellular dysfunction
Abnormal portal blood flow
Cholestasis
Name 4 other relevant biomarkers?

Cobalmin
Folate
What are the general options for treating hepatobilliary?
Fluid therapy
Diet
Supplements
Anti-emetics
Anti-ulcers
What are the typical clinical findings of hepatic lipidosis?
Anorexia
weight loss
muscle wasting
hepatomegaly
When is exocrine pancreatic insufficiency?
Occurs when there is insufficient digestive
enzymes – inadequate digestion.
What are the clinical signs of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency?
Weight loss (normal appetite), small bowel
diarrhoea, increased feacal volume, steatorrhoea,
copraphagia, borborygmus, poor coat condition
What is portosystemic shunt?
Common congenital anomaly of the hepatobiliary system in dogs
What is feline inflammatory liver disease?
Most common primary hepatic disorder of cats in the UK.
