Digestion and absorption of lipids Flashcards
Where is lipase produced
Pancrease
Where is lipase secreted into
Duodenum and ileum
Bile is produced i
Liver and stored in the gall bladder
Lipase
Produced in pancreas
Hydrolyses ester bonds in triglycerides forming monoglycerides and fatty acids
Bile salts
Occurs before lipase action
Produced : Liver
Stored : Gall bladder
Transported : By bile duct into duodenum
Role: emulsifies lipid to form any tiny droplets called micelle
Increases SA for lipase activity
EMULSIFICATION
Micelles
Water soluble vesicles
Formed by : fatty acids, glycerol, monoglycerides and bile salts
Deliver the fatty acid, glycerol and monoglycerides into epithelial cell within ileum
Release fatty acid and glycerol into epithelium for absorption
Absorption
After monoglycerides, fatty acid and glycerol are released at the epithelial cell they are transport to Endoplasmic Reticulum to form triglycerides again. Triglycerides binds with cholesterol and proteins and packaged to form chylomicrons again in Golgi body
Chylomicrons
Travel in vesicle to the cell membrane and are exocytosed from epithelial cell to capillaries ( Requires ATP)
Transport of chylomicrons
In the capillaries, chylomicrons enter pymphatic capillaries called lacresis. They travel away from illeum to tissues like the adipose, cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue. Once they arrive the triglycerides will be hydrolyses and form fatty acids used by tissue
