Cell-Mediated response Flashcards
What are the main cells involved in the cell-mediated response
T-cells
What can T-cells only bind to
antigen presenting cells
3 types of antigen presenting cells
Body cell
B-cell
Phagocyte
How do naive T-cells clone
By binding to a processed antigen on a phagocyte
Naive t-cell
A T-cell that has never seen an antigen before
Helper T-cells with B-cells
Helper T-cell binds to a processed antigen on a B-cell causing the b-cell to clone itself in the humoral response
Helper T-cells with phagocytes
Helper T-cells can release chemicals near pathogens to attract phagocytes to trigger phagocytosis
Helper T-cells which turn into cytotoxic T-cells
Cloned helper T-cells activate cytotoxic T-cells to destroy our own body cells infected with a virus
How do cytotoxic T-cells kill infected body cells
Cytotoxic T-cells releases a protein called perforin which put holes in the membrane
Ions move in and out of the cell leading to its destruction
