A

Standard treatment for rapid control of symptoms

Not recommended in children under 12

A

Initially 4 mg then 2mg for up to 5 days, take a dose after each loose stool. Max 16mg a day

A

Serious cardiac adverse reactions with high doses. Misuse or abuse.

Acute ulcerative colitis
Antibiotic associated colitis
Conditions where peristalsis is inhibited
Conditions where abdominal distension develops

Avoid in bloody diarrhoea or inflammatory diarrhoea (fever, severe abdominal pain)
