CV/Resp Part 3- vasculature of the heart Flashcards

There are two main coronary arteries which branch to supply the entire heart. They are named the __ and __ coronary arteries which are the first branches of the ascending aorta.
They arise from the left and right aortic __ within the aorta.

There are two main coronary arteries which branch to supply the entire heart. They are named the left and right coronary arteries which are the first branches of the ascending aorta.
They arise from the left and right aortic sinuses within the aorta.
The aortic sinuses are small openings found within the aorta behind the left and right flaps of the aortic valve. When the heart is relaxed, the back-flow of blood fills these valve pockets, therefore allowing blood to enter the coronary arteries.

The artery which gives rise to the posterior __ branch (posterior __) defines coronary artery dominance. __ dominance is typical (67%)
The artery which gives rise to the posterior interventricular branch (posterior descending) defines coronary artery dominance. RCA dominance is typical (67%)
The left coronary artery (LCA) branches off, in order:
1.
2.
3.
4.
- the sinoatrial nodal branch
- anterior interventricular branch (anterior descending branch LAD)
- circumflex branch
- left marginal branch.
The LCA thus typically supplies the __ atrium, most of the __ ventricle, part of the __ ventricle, most of the __ septum including the __ bundle, and the __ node in 40% of people
The LCA thus typically supplies the left atrium, most of the left ventricle, part of the right ventricle, most of the interventricular septum including the AV bundle, and the SA node in 40% of pe

the right coronary artery branches to form :
- (in 60% of people)
2.
3.
4.
- the sinoatial noral branch (60%)
- atrioventricular nodal branch
- posteiror interventricular branch (posterior descending)
- the interventricular septal branch

outline which regions the coronary arteries serve

The __ __ is the main vein of the heart, located on the posterior surface in the coronary sulcus, which runs between the left atrium and left ventricle.
The __ drains into the __ __. Within the right atrium, the opening of the coronary sinus is located between the right atrioventricular orifice and the inferior vena cava orific
The coronary sinus is the main vein of the heart, located on the posterior surface in the coronary sulcus, which runs between the left atrium and left ventricle.
The sinus drains into the right atrium.
Within the right atrium, the opening of the coronary sinus is located between the right atrioventricular orifice and the inferior vena cava orifice.
MOST VEINS DRAINING THE HEART EMPTY INTO THE CORONARY SINUS, WHICH DRAINS INTO THE RIGHT ATRIUM

here are five tributaries which drain into the coronary sinus:
The anterior __ vein drains into the great cardiac vein, and drains the areas supplied by the LCA
The __ __ vein is also located on the anterior surface of the heart. This passes around the right side of the heart to join the coronary sinus. It accompanies the right marginal branch of the RCA.
Another vein which drains the right side of the heart is the __ __ vein. It is located on the posterior surface of the heart. It accompanies the __ __ branch of the RCA
__ __ cardiac veins drain the right ventricle and drain directly into the right atrium
The final 2 cardiac veins are also on the posterior surface of the heart:
• On the left posterior side is the left __ vein.
• In the centre is the left __ ventricular vein which runs along the posterior __ __ to join the coronary sinus.
The anterior interventricular vein drains into the great cardiac vein, and drains the areas supplied by the LCA
The small cardiac vein is also located on the anterior surface of the heart. This passes around the right side of the heart to join the coronary sinus. It accompanies the right marginal branch of the RCA.
Another vein which drains the right side of the heart is the middle cardiac vein. It is located on the posterior surface of the heart. It accompanies the posterior interventricular branch of the RCA
Small anterior cardiac veins drain the right ventricle and drain directly into the right atrium
The final 2 cardiac veins are also on the posterior surface of the heart:
• On the left posterior side is the left marginal vein.
• In the centre is the left posterior ventricular vein which runs along the posterior interventricular sulcus to join the coronary sinus.
