CN V motor lesions
Jaw will deviate toward the side of the lesion due to unopposed force on the opposite pterygoid muscle.
CN X lesions
Uvula will deviate away from the side of the lesion
the weak side collapses and uvula points away
CN XI lesions
Weakness during turning the head toward the contralateral side of the lesion (SCM)
Shoulder drop on the side of the lesion (trapezius)
**The left SCM contracts to turn the head to the right.
wHICH NERVES PASS THROUGH THE CAVERNOUS SINUS?
CN III, IV, V1 and VI
AKA all the nerves that control the eye and V1
Pituitary tumors can effect this area.
CN 6 most commonly effected.
Which portion of the ear can the ear bones be found?
Middle ear.
Amplifys sound from eardrum to inner ear.
UMN lesion to facial nerve
Contralateral paralysis of the lower face, forehead spared because bilateral UMN innervation.
LMN lesion to facial nerve
ipsilateral paralysis of upper and lower face.
Only the UMN supplies double innervation to forehead.
What are the mastication muscles?
Which close and which open?
Masseter
Temporalis
Medial ptyrigoid all close
(only the lateral ptyrigoid opens)
which area of the eye is the bind spot and which has a bunch of sensors?
The optic disc is blindspot
The fovea is the light sensitive area.
