C’era una volta un topino che viveva in città, e che un giorno decise di fare una gita in campagna.
Once upon a time there was a mouse who lived in the city, and one day he decided to take a trip to the countryside.
Era stufo della vita frenetica che faceva ogni giorno e voleva rilassarsi un po’ tra i prati verdi e all’ombra di qualche grande albero.
He was tired of the hectic life he led every day and wanted to relax a bit among the green meadows and in the shade of some large trees.
Mentre riposava tranquillo, passò di lì un topino di campagna.
– Buongiorno – gli disse il topino di campagna.
– Buongiorno a te! – rispose il topino di città. – Sei di queste parti?
While he was resting quietly, a little country mouse passed by.
“Good morning,” said the country mouse.
- Good morning to you! Replied the city mouse. - Are you from here?
– Certamente, abito con la mia famiglia un po’ più in là, vicino a quel boschetto.

– Come ti invidio… – gli disse il topino di città – tu stai qui tranquillo e sereno senza preoccupazioni, io invece devo correre tutto il giorno di qua e di là per non farmi prendere!

Ma scusa, tu da dove vieni? – chiese incuriosito il topino di campagna.
– Vengo dalla città.

– Ma allora sei tu quello fortunato! Lì in città avete tutte le comodità del mondo e anche cibo in abbondanza! Qui ci sono periodi in cui si fa la fame…

Guarda amico mio, ti propongo uno scambio. Io vengo a vivere qui in campagna e tu vai a vivere da me in città, ci stai?
Look my friend, I propose an exchange. I come to live here in the countryside and you go to live with me in the city, are you there?
– Va bene, ci sto! – rispose tutto contento il topino di campagna.
E così i due si avviarono alle rispettive nuove case.
- Okay, I’m in! The country mouse replied happily.
And so the two went to their respective new homes.
Al topino di città non sembrava vero di poter finalmente stare tranquillo per un po’, senza dover correre dalla mattina alla sera.
It didn’t seem real to the city mouse that he could finally feel comfortable for a while, without having to run from morning to night.
Per il topino di campagna, il solo pensiero di avere una dispensa piena di cibo, da poter usare a proprio piacimento, era più di un sogno che si realizzava.
For the country mouse, the mere thought of having a pantry full of food, which he could use at will, was more than a dream come true.
Il topino di città, all’inizio, trovava anche divertente il dover andare a caccia ogni giorno di un piccolo pezzo di formaggio o il doversi ingegnare su come raccattare una briciola di pane.

Invece il topino di campagna, finalmente, non doveva più preoccuparsi di dover ogni giorno trovare un modo per riempirsi la pancia: bastava entrare in cucina e servirsi.
