Chapter 7 the lungs Flashcards
Respiratory dysfunction
when minute volume is interfered with
disruption of respiratory control
stroke and infection can interrupt the medulla oblongata its functions and alter the control of effective breathing.
-spinal chord injuries and other neurologic disorders can interrupt these transmissions
disruption of pressure
if a hole is created in the chest wall and air is allowed to escape or be drawn in the pressures necessary for breathing and necessary to keep lungs adhered to the chest wall can be disrupted.
disruption of lung tissue
main cause of disruption is trauma
medical issues can also interfere with lung tissue
hypercapnia
high carbon dioxide
hypoxia
low oxygen
Respiratory compensation
when 1 of the 3 pillars of life are malfunctioning the other 2 have to compensate to make up for the interference
-chemoreceptors in the brain send messages to the brain that assistance is required.
