Identifying hazards at a scene
danger zone
the area around the wreckage or any incident within which special safety precautions should be taken
index of suspicion
awareness that there may be injuries

the force that produced the injury, its intensity and direction.

penetrating trauma
injury by an object that passes through the skin or tissues
scene size up
sizing up the scene from the moment dispatch calls it in, till approaching and arrival.
ANSI-approved reflective vests
should be worn at traffic collisions or at any night time emergency scene
fuel spill danger zone
100 ft radius from scene center (wreckage and fuel)
-park upwind if possible
vehicle fire
100 ft radius from fire
downed wires
area in which people or vehicles might be in contact with energized wires.
ambulance should be parked at least 1 full distance of the wires away from the poles to which broken wires are attached.
hazards materials
some cases when nothing is spilled safety zone is 50ft
in other cases we may be warned to park 2,000 ft from danger zone
- park uphill if liquid is flowing
- park on same level if there are gases or fumes rising
