Ch.2 Anatomy & Physiology (V, VII, XI) Flashcards
What is the fifth cranial nerve?
•Largest known as Trifacial & Trigeminal nerve.
•Chief sensory nerve of face
•Serves as motor nerve of muscles that control chewing
What are the 3 branches of the 5th cranial nerve and what do they affect?
•ophthalmic- skin of forehead, upper eyelid, & interior portion of scalp, orbit, eyeball , nasal passage.
•mandibular- muscles of chin & lower lip
•maxillary- upper part of face
Which branches of the 5th cranial nerve are affected by facial or lymphatic massage?
8 branches
MINI ASSZ
Mental- chin and lower lip
Infraorbital- lower lid, side of nose, upper lip and mouth
Nasal- point & lower side of nose
Infratrochlear-membrane & skin of nose
Auriculotemporal- external ear and skin above temple to top of skull
Supraorbital- scalp, forehead,eyebrow, upper lid
Supratrochlear- skin between eyes and upper nose
Zygomatic- muscles of upper cheek
What is the 7th cranial nerve?
Aka Facial nerve.
Chief motor never of face.
Lower part of ear to muscle of neck.
control all facial expressions n secretion of saliva
What are the important branches of facial nerves?
6 of them
•posterior auricular - back of ear
•temporal -side of forehead
•zygomatic-upper cheek
•Buccal- muscles of mouth
•mandibular-lower lip & chin
•cervical- sides of neck and platysma
What is the 11th cranial nerve?
Aka Accessory nerve.
Controls motion of neck and shoulder
What are cervical nerves?
Originate at spinal cord & Supply the back of the head & neck
What are the 4 cervical nerves?
•cervical cutaneous- at side of neck affects front & side of neck
•greater auricular- at side of neck affects face, ears, neck & parotid gland
•greater occipital- at back of head affects scalp to top of head
•smaller occipital- aka lesser occipital at base of skull . Affects scalp and muscles behind ear
What is the vagus nerve?
Located in the abdominal cavity
Can cause fainting with overreacting trigger
Part of autonomic nerve system
