Ch.2 Anatomy & Physiology (Muscles Of Shoulder & Arms) Flashcards
What is the trapezius muscle?
Covers back of neck, shoulders, upper & middle region of back.
Shrugs shoulders stabilizes scapula
What is the biceps?
2 part muscle contours front and inner side of upper arm. Lifts forearm, flex elbows, turns palm outward.
What is the Deltoid muscle?
Triangular shape covering shoulder joint allowing arm to extend outward and to the sides of body.
What is the triceps muscle?
Large 3 part muscle that covers the entire back of the upper arm and extends the forearm.
Describe the hand & its muscles?
The hand One of the most complex parts of the body. Many muscles overlap from joint to joint providing flexibility & strength to open and close hand & fingers.
What is abduction?
Think TAKING AWAY FROM :
Muscles that draw parts away from the body or extremities. Ex fingers, arm, toe.
Abduction separates fingers
What is adduction?
Muscles drawing body parts towards the body or bringing together. Such as fingers
What is flexion?
When muscles move to pull the part towards the core of the body.
Ex: biceps bringing arm up towards body
What is extension?
When muscles straighten.
What is supination?
SOUP
holding soup in palms . When muscles rotate in the forearm. The radius turn outward and palm upward.
What is pronate?
Muscles turn inward. Palms facing down
