Ch.2 Anatomy & Physiology (Lymphatic System) Flashcards
What is the lymphatic system?
Consists of liver, lymph, lymph nodes, thymus gland & spleen.
Protects body from desease.
resistance pathogens & desease destroying microorganisms
What is the liver?
•digestión
•synthesize proteins
•detoxify blood
•regulates sugar
•decomposition of red blood cells
•produce hormone
What is a lymph node?
Spleen is one.
Fights infection
Detox blood
What is lymph?
Liquid in the interstitial fluid dispersing white blood cells & cell nutrients & absorbs toxins/waste
What are the primary functions of the lymphatic system?
•Defense against desease & invading bacteria
•Drains excess interstitial fluid away from cells
(which is a fluid that provides nutrients to cells and removes waste.)
•Contains blood clot/ healing components
•Reduce swelling, inflammation, accumulation in blood vessels
Why is it important for estheticians to know/ understand the lymphatic system?
Some treatments create wounding/inflammation . This system is alerted to relieve inflammation & repair wounds.
Lymphatic drainage improves this systems flow.
Clients with autoimmune desease May require special consideration; a compromised immune system is often a contraindication for treatment
