Ch.2 Anatomy & Physiology (Heart & Blood) Flashcards
What is the heart?
Aka PUMP .
Muscular Cone shaped organ keeps blood flowing CONSTANTLY through circulatory system. Heartbeat is regulated by vagus nerve.
Resting heart rate is 72-80
What are the two systems that ensure blood circulation?
•Pulmonary circulation- Carrie’s blood from heart to lungs to be oxygenated
•Systemic circulation- (general circulation) Carrie’s oxygenated blood from heart throughout body & back to heart
What is a blood vessel?
Tubes through which blood circulates. This includes arteries arteriales, capillaries, venules and veins which transports blood from heart to various tissues.
What are arteries?
Carry oxygenated blood away from heart to arterioles. Aorta is the largest.
What are arterioles ?
Deliver blood to capillaries
What are capillaries?
Connect small arteries to venules. Bring nutrients to cells and carry away waste.
What are venules ?
Connects capillaries to veins. Collect blood from capillaries and drain to veins.
What are veins?
Have cup like valves keep blood flowing in one direction direction to the heart. Veins carry blood containing waste back to heart and lungs For cleansing. Located on outer skin surface
What is blood?
Connective tissue that connects body systems together. HON hormones oxygen nutrients & removes waste
3 facts about blood?
•8-10 pints in the body
•sticky & salty
•98.6 Fahrenheit
What are the functions of blood?
•carries WOMN (water, oxygen, minerals, nutrients) to cells & tissue
•Carrie’s away waste
•equalizes temperature
•helps against bacteria/infection through white blood cells
•closes Injuries creating clots preventing blood loss
What is the composition of blood?
•Red blood cells: carry oxygen to body cells
•white blood cells: destroy desease causing microorganisms.
•Platelets: contribute to blood clotting
•plasma: fluid part 90% water contains (PMS)protein mineral sugar. Carries vital minerals to cells and waste away from cells
