Q

Stages of attatchment schaffer n Emmerson study
Findings

A

Atatchment behaviours developed in stages loosely linked to age
(6-8 months =separation anxiety -this indicates atatchment been formed)
65%= first attachment with mum
3% first attachment with dad
27% =mum n dad first
By 18 months around 87% had atleast 2 attachemtns but 31% had 5 or more(multiple)

Q

Stages of attatchemnt study
Schaffer n Emmerson conclusion

A

Attachments develops in diff stages ,multiple attachments teem to be the rule rather than exception
,but not all child attatchments of equal strength
Mother not always /nessacarily main atttachment fig
Attachments more likely when displayed sensitivity n responsiveness rather than who spent most time or who fed them.

Q

Stages of attachemtn study schaffer n emmerson
Longitudinal study

A

Same babies followed up regularly (get to see development ,more detail n insight)
This don’t allow individ differences -opposes observing different children at diff ages at same time.

Q

Stages of attatchments schaffer n emmerson
low pop

A

Glasgow is deprived in Scotland
Families were working class so
Families living there most likely unemployed or single mums or external family members ( goes against claim that attachments formed in first instance )
This means attatchments formed in Glasgow maybe diff to other areas as their is more time spent with babies (more sensitivity n responsiveness displayed

Q

Stages of attaychemnts schaffer n emmerson self report data

A

Social desirablitlty bias
Used self report some mums less sensitive to infants protests -less likely to report this cus makes em look like bad mum
May not wanna say also that could not close to dad or that infant not upset when separated.

Q

Stages of attachments
Schaffer n emmersons
Ecological validiity

A

Natural observation
Observations made by parents during ordinary activities n then reported by mothers to researchers
Means behaviour of baby naturalness unlikely to be affected by presence of researchers
If in lab babies would of got upset cus of strange environment
