Anaesthesia - EQUINE Flashcards
what is a recommended field anaesthesia protocol?
catheter premed= ACP sedation = a-2 induction = thiopental (quick, smooth) analgesia = ketamine
to give LA what size and gauge needle is required?
25G, 16mm with 2ml LA
to desensitise the ocular area there are 4 approaches
- supraorb
- infratrochlear
- zygomatic
- lacrimal
to remove the motor function of the globe there is only one technique
auriculopalpebral
to perform an enucleation what LA techn would you need
retrobulbar to desensitise CN II, III, IV, V, VI. when correct the cornea should protruse a little. for this you need a 19G 90mm SPINAL needle (its deep)
to perform dental procedures, LA are useful to desensitise the trigeminal mand and max
mand = mental and mandibular max = infraorbital and maxillary
what properties must drugs used for epidurals have
no preservatives
opioid or LA or A-2
name and breifly descr the 3 epidural methods
- intercoccygeal = 1st space
- lumbosacral = can use catheter.
- paravertebral = flank sx. Cd to last rb –> D midline (L3)
what mehtod is often employed to identify when the epidural space has been accessed
hanging drop test
- water in needle hub
- insert, when sucked in = neg p of epidural space
how do you access the success of a nerve block?
skin temp should be lower
sweating
no reaction to pain stim
