What are 6 points to consider with adverse drug reactions?

  1. DETAIL – gather as much information as possible about the reaction
  2. TIMING – initiation, cessation, dose changes of ALL medications and onset of reaction
  3. DOSES – some reactions are dose related
  4. DELAYED EFFECT – medication use in recent months (e.g. antibiotics, NSAIDs, general anaesthetics)
  5. MEDICAL CONDITIONS – is adverse effect a manifestation of a medical condition
  6. ALLERGIES/ADVERSE REACTIONS – to previous medications
