How do you calculate crude death rate?
(number of deaths/population) x 1000
How do you calculate disease specific death rate?
Number of people who died from disease/Population
How do you calculate fatality rate?
Number of people who contract disease and die/number of people who contract disease
What is the attack rate of a disease defined as?
cumulative incidence rate used for particular groups and observed for limited periods of time under special circumstances

What is the Write of Habeous Corpus?
judicial order which seeks the detaining of a particular individual for purposes of bringing the individual before the court so that the individual can be examined
Define impound
to confine or lock up for a certain amount of time until a legal decision is made (up to 30 days)
Define seizure
disposition of seized product can be known/unknown
ex: illegally imported goods - when a product is seized by inspector, a documented notice/release from and a receipt is to be issued
What happens during condemnation proceedings?
seizure/embargo methods is a preventative measure
sole purpiose to prevent distribution of goods to public
owner has right to hearing prior to destruction/exportation of seized goods
What is a license defined as?
formal permission to conduct a specific business which must conform to the satisfactory requirements of the state/local codes

What is a permit defined as?
a written authorization to operate a specific business, issued by local enforcement agency
What is an administrative hearing?
purpose is to announce scope of violations and hear all sides of case
What is a formal hearing?
same as administrative, but presided by court-appointed official
What is an informal hearing?
held by agency citing the offender
typically held by supervisor or director
Define malfeasance and provide an example
the doing of an act which is wrongful and unlawful and has no right to do
ex: making food operator replace sink when sink is legal and in good working condition
Define misfeasance and provide an example
An act which is wrongful or injurious manner
Improper performance of an act which might have been lawfully done
ex: inspector uses wrong test strip to test functioning dishwasher and subsequently closes the restaurant

law of urgency
the total omission/failure of agent to perform undertaking which inspector has agreed with their principles to do
ex: observe haz waste dumping and fail to report or stop
