The passive form is built with the verb “être” and the past participle of the verb.
La forme passive se construit avec le verbe être et le participe passé du verbe.
Only direct transitive verbs (those which have a direct object complement) can be put in the passive voice.
Seuls les verbes transitifs directs (ceux qui ont un complément d’objet direct) peuvent se mettre à la voix passive.
Jean walks the dog.
The dog is walked by Jean.
Jean promène le chien.
Le chien est promené par Jean.
Marie drives the motorcycle.
The motorcycle is driven by Marie.
