States that there are 4 functional areas of attitudes that serve indiv in life: knowledge, ego expression; Adaptive; ego defensive
Learning theory
attitudes are dev through forms of learning: direct contact direct interaction direct instruction conditioning
Elaboration likelihood model
attitudes are formed and changed though diff routes of info processing based on the degree of elaboration; central route processing and peripheral route processing
central route processing
High elaboration
Scrutinizing and analyzing the content of persuasive info
peripheral route processing
Low elaboration
Focusing on superficial details of persuasive info, such as appearances, catchphrases and slogans, and credibility
Social cognitive theory
attitudes are formed through observation of behavior, personal factors, and envir which are part of Bandura’s Triadic Reciprocal Causation
