What are risk factors for hyperemesis gravidarum?
Multiple pregnancies
Molar Pregnancies
History of eating disorder
First time pregnancy
Smoking is protective
What is the best medication for IBS and depression together?
Amitryptilline
What antidepressant should be used post MI?
SSRI e.g. sertraline or citalopram
What is the management of petit mal or Jacksonian seizures?
1) Lamotrigine
2) Valproate
What is the difference between Argyll Roberston pupil and Holmes-Adie pupil?
Argyll= Are small pupils
Holmes- large pupils
What are features of non haemolytic febrile reaction?
Fever/chills
Slow/stop transfusion, give paracetamol and monitor
What are features of radiation pneumonitits?
Fatigue, nausea, diarrhoea, nausea in short term
Long term- intraperitoneal fibrosis, neurological symptoms, decreased fertility
Treat with steroids
What is the management of aplastic anaemia?
Antithymocyte globulin
What is Chloasma?
Hyperpigmentation that occurs in pregnancy
What is Arc eye?
Complication seen in welders/sunbed users that do not wear goggles
Causes pain, foreign body sensation and watering
Treat with abx and LA drops e.g. tetracaine
When should babies of HIV positive mother have antibody testing?
18 months old
What is the management of gonorrhoea?
Ceftriaxone 1g IM and oral ciprofloxacin
Can use azithromycin but increase rates of resistance
What is the management of genital warts?
Topical podophyllum or crythrtherapy
Imiquimod second line
What is the management of polycythaemia vera?
Intense itching post shower, purple rash and hypertension
Asymptomatic- venesection and aspirin
Symptomatic- immunosuppression (if organmegaly or adverse symptoms present
What are features of wound dehiscence?
Commonly occurs 1 week post op
Fluid leakage before wound stitches pulled out of tissues and abdo contents spill out
Urgent surgery required
