6. Crisis Intervention Flashcards
Indications for Use:
Criss intervention is good when someone comes in and reports a stressor or major event has happened in their life (someone dies, loses their job, dealing with breakup)
Common Goals and Interventions:
The goal of crisis intervention is not to make them have new insights; the focus is returning them to previous level of functioning
The intervention is to get them more social supports, also determine if there is a suicide risk
This intervention is used when major stressors throw a person’s functioning off and they are not able to deal with it.
Client’s need to use old coping skills or develop new ones and bring them to equilibrium (balance of tensions from internal and external factors)
Example: think of a home air conditioner that breaks because, the goal is not to create a new air conditioner, but to get it to function like it did before to make cool air in the heat
