21. Adolescent Issues Flashcards
Developmental Issues:
For parents who have concerns about their teen not wanting to hang out, having dinner with them, or go to church anymore, then SW should provide psychoeducation
For parents who are concerned about drug use, school grades, and behaviors then SW should address those issues by determining what is normal development
For sexual development in adolescence, such as teens exploring or struggling with problems (homosexuality or identity confusion), then a SW should support those clients in exploring those issues but also be cautious of stigmatization
This is a common diagnosis seen in teenagers (many end up in juvenile court), they have had a violation of rights of others, and broken laws (vandalizations, assaulted someone, stolen something)
This disorder is more severe, even if they have problems with authority
Conduct Disorder
Disorder that involves teens who have issues with authority (do not like being told what to do, do not listen to people, do not doing chores, and have hard time with therapist)
If a teen seeks therapy, working individually is more helpful if they are separate from their parents
Oppositional Deviant Disorder
Access to Minor Records:
Parents have a legal right to access records, unless a SW feels that it interferes with teens mental health or is detrimental and may be harmful
