A SW is legally required to warn the victim and the police and they should ask client to clarify what they mean by that threat
Remember, clients do not typically come in and tell us they are suicidal or plan to harm others. It is the SW’s clinical duty to pick up on signs and risk factors by assessing the situation
If a client comes in with mental health condition (hearing voices telling them to harm someone), then have them hospitalized and medicated
Safety is always first in the office and in the field
