Refers to instincts or ideas that are acceptable to the self; that are compatible with one’s values, goals, beliefs, self-image, and ways of thinking
Ego-Syntonic
Refers to thoughts, impulses, and behaviors that are felt to be repugnant, distressing, unacceptable or inconsistent with one’s self-concept
Ego-Dystonic
Clients with this disorder have a hard time with abandonment and known for unstable relationships and maintaining relationship and jobs
During treatment, SW must have firm boundaries because clients fear being abandoned as they want to constantly call or message SW to test professional-client relationships
A person with this disorder has frequent suicidal gestures or attempts and may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that may last from only a few hours to days
Borderline Personality Disorder
A condition that is very common for clients to have another diagnosis
Example: personality disorders often seen with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse
