27. Interventions Flashcards
Treatment Planning:
First, do an assessment
Second, make a treatment plan and identify goals through collaboration with client (buy in so they can engage)
Third, identify how goals are going to be accomplished
Lastly, create objectives on how goals will identify the intervention (be specific and how)
Starting Where the Client Is:
Take into account their motivation (if client is reluctant at first, identify why they are resisting)
Initial Phase:
Know the client and build relationship, trust, and rapport
Middle Phase:
Change stage, active listening, empathy, reflection, timing of responses, and reframing
Termination Phase:
SW praises the patient’s accomplishments, new skills, and highlights the symptomatic improvement that has occurred over the course of treatment
Common Problems and Barriers:
Main problem is resistance to treatment (can be threatening to a client and progress is not occurring)
It is important to articulate this and explore what may be going on. May require revisiting goals and objects. In clients with good outcomes, the number one thing is the quality of relationship between client and the therapist (built on trust)
If client is not following through, bring it up to the client about what is happening
