Signs of Physical Abuse:
Children who are physically abused may have bruising or markings in an unusual spot or in the shape of object
Signs of Sexual Abuse:
Children who have been sexually abused have a fine to drastic change in behavior (acts out sexually and inappropriate), not bathing, falling asleep in class, and wants to touch adult or peers
Signs of Neglect:
Children who have been neglected have poor hygiene, malnourished, not changing clothes, and may report being left unattended
Reporting Responsibilities:
A SW is legally required to report abuse and neglect if there is reasonable suspicion
Think of making a report to prevent something from happening (CPS will not remove children from home immediately, they will provide links to family to keep their children safe)
First file report, then talk to family about it and why, and lastly facilitate with how CPS does investigation. It is always important to ask about how parents discipline their children
