30. Chronic renal disease. Flashcards
Chronic Kidney Disease
Etiology
- before 10 years of age:
- CAKUT are the most common cause
- after age 10
- acquired renal diseases are most common
- such as focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and glomerulonephritis
- acquired renal diseases are most common
Chronic Kidney Disease
Clinical manifestations
- depends on underlying cause and complicatoins
- CAKUT:
- Polyuria, Polydipsia, recurrent UTI
- glomerular disease:
- Hematuria, Proteinuria, Edema, Hypertension
Chronic Renal Disease
Complications
- Poor growth
- Anemia
- CKD-Mineral Bone Disorder/ secondary hyperparathyroidism
- Cardiovasclular
- Hypertension
- Left ventricular hypertrophy
- Electrolyte abnormalities
- Hyperkalemia
- Hyponatremia
- Metabolic acidosis
Chronic Renal Disease
Complication Treatment:
Poor growth
- Increased caloric intake,
- treat acidosis
- treakt CKD MBD
- recombinant GH

Classification of the Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease
Unit: GFR (mL/min/1.73m2)
- >90 Minimal Kidney Damage
- 60-89 Kidney damage with mild reduction of GFR
- 30-59 Moderate reduction of GFR
- 15-29 Severe reduction of GFR
- <15 (or dialysis) End-stage renal disease
