When does asbestos pose a health risk?

When should it be assumed that there is asbestos present in building construction?
buildings constructed prior to 1992.
When are FF and Fire Investigators exempt from Ontario Regulations pertaining to asbestos on construction projects and in buildings and repair operations?
upon arrival of FD at emergency scene and continues through until completion of origin and cause investigation activities.
When are FD NOT exempt from Ontario Regulations pertaining to asbestos?
- non- emergency FD activities (incl. training in acquired buildings)
- building construction or maintenance of operations in sire stations
During emergency ops, what should be done when there is a potential exposure? (3)
- wear SCBA
- wet surfaces to minimize fibre disruption
- conduct on-site decon of FF prior ot removing SCBA
What is guideline for post- incident clean-up? (4)
- wear appropriate respiratory protection
- brush off debris from PPE, tools, equipment
- gently rinse off equipment w/ low pressur ewater or wipe with damp cloth
- use vaccum with HEPA filter (H204) can be used in lieu of rinsing with water
Where should cloths used for cleaning be left?
with property owner
