What is Emergency/ Gross Decontamination?
rapid removal of potentially harmful substances from responders/ civilians (before transport by paramedics)
What is Mass Decontamination?
process of decontaminating large populations that have been potentially exposed to harful substances
What is Technical Decontamination?
means of thoroughly decontaminating FF and other agency members at Hazmat incident
When is Emergency/ Gross Decontamination utilized?
ordered by Captain at any incident where personnel/ occupants have been exposed ot potentially harmful environments/ contaminants
When can SCBA be removed?
after process is complete.
Why are PPV fasn set up in warm zone outside the involved structure?
to expedite the off gassing of products of combustion of minimally soiled bunker gear
What must be utilized when handling, removing and packaging of soiled equipment and/ or clothing?
respiratory protection and double gloves
What is procedure for substantial soiling of bunker gear during an emergency incident? (3)
- 45mm handline on low pressure
- wide fog pattern to remove gross soiling
- on grassy area to capture run-off
When can SCBA and PPE be removed?
after contaminants have been removed from from FFs gear
Where shall personnel proceed immediately after removing SCBA and PPE?
to cold zone
When is Mass Decontamination utilized?
Captain’s recognize any incident involving a large number of people that have been potentailly exposed to harmful substances

in Capt’s binder on Hazmat apparatus.
What apparatus shall be considered to be used for mass decontamination?
aerial
Who/ what shall provide assistance in coordinating a Mass Decontamination? (3)
- PRP
- EMS
- BFES Hazmat team
