define Systole and Diastole
Systole- period of heart contraction
Diastole- period of heart relaxation
what controlls the opening and closing of valves?
direction of flow
describe main events in the P wave period of the cardiac cycle
- atrial depol -> atrial contraction -> atrial P ↑
- AV valves are open
- left ventricular P is lower in order for the blood to flow from atria to venticle
- aortic valve must be close to allow ventricular filling
describe main events in the QRS complex period of the cardiac cycle
- aortic valve is closed
2. mitral valve is closed
describe what is Isovolumetric contraction?
we are talking about the left ventricle when both aortic valve and mitral valve are closed and the volume inside the ventricle is not changing but the ventricular pressure ↑ bcs. there is contraction of the ventricular muscle
when can we hear S1 sound?
durring isovolumetric contraction
closure of the AV valves
due to Turbulant flow
describe main events in the ejection period of the cardiac cycle
- left entricular P becomes higher than the aortic P -> aortic valve opens -> blood flows to aorta
- pressure in aorta and LV continue to ↑ until 120 mmHg
- left atria is being filled again
- at the end of ejection aortic valve closes
heart sounds are result of
closure of the valves
when can we hear S2 sound?
results from the closure of aoretic valve at the beginning of isovolumetric relaxation
