11.9 Artificial Feel Flashcards
What control systems do not use artificial feel
Mechanical control systems
What is a simple spring box
Movements of control column compress spring in the box giving a feel back
How does a ‘Q’ pot feel system work
Piston connected to control column via linkage. Piston has to move against pitot pressure so the greater the speed the greater the force feedback to the pilot
What is done to the simple ‘Q’ pot feel unit to allow size to be reduced
Used with a hydraulic spool valve selector which supplies hydraulic fluid system
What is effective for artificial feel at low speed and what is effective at high speed
Springs effective at low speed, hydraulics effective at high speed
What does the yaw damper help to prevent
Dutch roll
How does the yaw damper work
Yaw damper system uses the rudder to counteract yaw caused by Dutch roll
What does Mach trim counteract
Mach tuck
What does Mach trim do
Lifts nose of aircraft (using elevator or THS) to counteract Mach tuck
What is the rudder limiter
Prevent rudder from being over deflected, reducing airframe stresses
What is the normal rudder deflection at low speed
Around 30° at low speed due to less airflow
What is the normal rudder deflection at cruise speed
Around 7° due to high amount of air hitting rudder
What is the purpose of gust locks
Lock control surfaces when parked
How do gust locks normally work
By covering/locking control surfaces
What MUST gust locks have on them
Remove before flight tags
