what must a firewall do ?
prevent any hazardous liquids, gas or flame from passing through the firewall
what properties must a firewall hold IAW CS25.1191?
-fireproof
-no hazardous quuntities of gas, liquids or flame should pass through the firewall and effect other components of the aircraft
-each opening in the firewall or shroud should be sealed with close fitting, fireproof grommets, bushings or firewall fittings
-protected against corrosion
when a firewall is present, what does this divide the engines into?
cooling zones
what are firewalls made of ?
heat resistant materials such as stainless steel, inconel and titanium
other than inside the engine, where else are firewalls located ?
nose cowl, hinged cowl panels, engine pylon
how may a firewall be maintained ?
-visually inspect th firewall for condition, security and cracking
-pay close attention around the engine mount points, around holes where controls, plumbing and electrical cables pass through the firewall
-check condition of the grommets and sealents
what are fire sheilds and heat blankets?
serve the same purpose as the firewalls
how should a fire sheild and heat blanket be examined during maintence?
examined for cracks, tears and burned areas. worn or damaged parts should be replaced
