What are main entry doors
Plug type doors that allow for quick safe and effective loading and unloading of passengers can also be emergency doors
What are service doors
Non plug type doors that provide access to systems eg wastes system and potable water
What are cargo doors
Non plug type doors providing access to fwd aft and bulk cargo holds
What is a plug door?
Door designed to seal itself by utilising pressure difference. Pressure forces door into wedge shaped frame meaning it can’t be opened until the pressure is released
What are non plug type doors
Door designed to be opened inwards its mechanism not suitable for cargo doors
What are passenger main entry doors MED
Located on left and right sides of fuselage, numbered from nose to tail. Left door is used to board passengers
What is a door made of
Door frame, beams, formers, intercostals
What is a door frame stop
Holds door closed when cabin is pressurised and uses pin in the stop to adjudged door to correct position
What are doors seals for
Pressurisation, light seal, acoustic seal, thermal seal, aerodynamic smoothness
What type of material is a door seal made of
Flexible material that fill space or can be inflatable made of cloth and glass fibre reinforced silicon rubber
Types of seals
Bulb type, diaphragm seal, flap type soda, multi form seal
What are door locking mechanisms
Mechanical mechanisms that can prevent door from opening and vary on design depending on mechanism
Can you penetrate a flight deck door
No they are bulletproof and can only be accessed by opening normally cannot be forced open
What are flight deck doors made of
Glass reinforced polymers, Kevlar and aramid, laminates of high strength glass fibres
What must be done to all doors before flight
Must be armed in case of emergency and will deploy slides and door will come of quickly
