Types of Stroke Flashcards
What are the two types of stroke?
The two main types of stroke are ischemic and hemorrhagic.
What is an ischemic stroke?
It occurs when blood flow through the cerebral arteries is blocked.
What is hemorrhagic stroke?
a blood pressure ruptures and the accumulated blood causes increased pressure in the brain
When does Ischemic stroke occur?
It is the most common type of stroke, accounting for more than 80% of all strokes.
When blood flow to a particular part of the brain is stopped by a blockage ( blood clot) inside a blood vessel result is an ischemic stroke.
When does Hemorrhagic occur?
It occurs as a result of bleeding inside the brain.
It commonly occurs in people experiencing stress or exertion.
Who is more at risk for Hemorrhagic?
People with higher blood pressure.
What type of conditions may mimic stroke?
- Hypoglycemia
- A postictal state
- Subdural or epidural bleeding (A collection of blood near the skull that presses on the brain)
