What are critical areas for burns?
The face, airways, hands, feet, genitals or any burn completely around an area of the body.
What is circumferential burns?
burns that are completely around an area of the body
What is full thickness burns?
(Third - degree)
Involve all layers of the skin and may involve muscle, bone, or organs.
What is partial - thickness burns?
(Second - degree)
Involve the epidermis and some of the dermis and will form blisters
What is superficial burns?
It involves the epidermis such as a sunburn.
What are the Rule of Nines?
A way to estimate the percentage of surface area burned
The Rule of Nines broken down:
Adult: (Anterior or Posterior)
Head - 9 %
Chest - 18
Back - 18
Arm - 9
Leg - 18
Children:
Head - 12
Legs - 16.5
Infant:
Head - 18
Legs - 13.5
What are the burn classifications?
Severe - Any full thickness burn or a partial thickness burn more than 20%
Moderate - A partial thickness burn of 10 - 20%
Minor - A partial thickness burn of less than 10%
What are the different types of burns?
Thermal, electrical, chemical, and radiation
