Head
Inspect and Palpate the Scalp and Ears
Assess the Eyes (Check PEARL)
Inspect the mouth, nose, and facial area
Neck
Look for tracheal deviation
Check for Jugular vein distension
Palpate the cervical spine for “step - offs)
Apply C - color as needed
Chest
Inspect and Palpate the chest (Praying method)
Auscultate all fields of the lungs
Abdomen / Pelvis
Inspect and Palpate all quadrants of the Abdomen
Assess the Stability of the Pelvis
If prudent, assess the genitalia / perineum for signs of trauma
Lower extremities
Inspect and Palpate all segments of the Leg for trauma
Check Pulse, Motor, and Sensory Functions
Upper Extremities
Inspect and Palpate all segments of the Arm for Trauma
Check Pulse, motor, and sensory functions
Posterior Thorax, Lumbar, and Buttotocks
On “Headman’s” count, roll the patient while keeping integrity of the spine
Inspect and Palpate the Posterior Thorax, Lumbar, and Buttocks
