Toxoplasma gondii
Cat feces or ingestion of undercooked meat
Materal: asymptomatic
Neonatal: chorioretinitis, hydrocephalus, intracranial calcifications
Rubella
Respiratory droplets
Maternal: Rash, lymphadenopathy, arthritis
Neonatal: PDA, cataracts, deafness, blueberry muffin rash
CMV
Sexual contact, organ transplants
Maternal: Asymptomatic, mononucleosis-like
neonate: hearing loss, seizures, petechial rash, blueberry muffin rash
HIV
Sexual contact, needlestick
Maternal: Variable
Neonate: recurrent infections, chronic diarrhea
HSV-2
Skin or mucous membrane contact
Maternal: usually asymptomatic, herpetic lesions
Neonate: encephalitis, herpetic lesions
Syphilis
Sexual contact
Neonate: stillbirth, hydrops fetalis; if survives, facial abnormalities (notched teeth, saddle nose, short maxilla), saber shins, CN VIII deafness
