Thyroid Gland Flashcards
The right and left lobes of the thyroid gland is connected by the
Isthmus
Thyroid gland level
C5-T1
Thyroid gland mass
20 gms
Fibrous or muscular band that frequently connects the pyramidal lobe to the hyoid bone
Levator Grandulae Thyroideaa
Originate from the EXTERNAL CAROTID ARTERY
Superior thyroid artery
Originate from the THYROCERVICAL TRUNK
Inferior thyroid artery
Drain to INTERNAL JUGULAR VEIN
Superior and Middle Thyroid vein
Drain to BRACHIOCEPHALIC
Inferior Thyroid vein
At risk for injury during tracheotomy
Inferior Thyroid vein
Thyroid Ima artery
Thymus gland
Also called FORRICULAR CELLS
Synthesize and secrete thyroid hormone
Thyrocytes
(+) abundant RER
Also called C or CLEAR CELLS
Synthesize and secrete CALCITONIN
Larger, stain less intensely
Less RER, many granules
Parafollicular cells
Midline mass
Near hyoid bone
Moves up with swallowing or tongue protrusion
Thyroglossal Duct Cyst
Lateral to midline
Anterior to SCM
Does NOT move up with swallowing or tongue protrusion
Brachial Cleft Cyst
