TRANSVERSE COLON
Blood supply and Venous Drainage of Transverse Colon
SMA – MIDDLE COLIC ARTERY and RIGHT COLIC
IMA – LEFT COLIC ARTERY
superior and mesenteric vein
Passes superiorly on the R side from cecum to
the R lobe of liver where it turns to the L at R
colic / hepatic flexure
5 inches/ 13 cms long
Ascending Colon

SMA – ILEOCOLIC and RIGHT COLIC ARTERY
ILEOCOLIC and RIGHT COLIC VEIN – SMV
10 inches (25 cms ) long
passes retroperitoneally from the L colic flexure into the L iliac fossa where it
continuous with sigmoid colon
DESCENDING COLON

IMA – LEFT COLIC ARTERY AND SIGMOID ARTERY

S – shaped loop
10 – 15 inches (25-38 cms ) long
extends from the iliac fossa to the 3rd SACRAL VERTEBRA – rectum
with fan shaped sigmoid mesocolon
