Cerebellum Flashcards
Maintain coordination of limb movements
while the movements are being executed; regulation of muscle tone
ANTERIOR LOBE (Paleocerebellum or Spinocerebellum)
Coordination of VOLUNTARY movements
POSTERIOR LOBE (Neocerebellum or Cerebrocerebellum)
Responsible for coordination of the PARAXIAL muscles associated with EQUILIBRIUM
FLOCCULONODULAR LOBE ( Archicerebellum or Vestibulocerebellum)
POSTERIOR LOBE SYNDROME
ATAXIA (loss of coordination of voluntary movements); rate, range and force of movements are abnormal resulting to intention tremor
DYSMETRIA – overshoots or undershoots when attempting to touch a target
DYSDIADOCHOKINESIA – inability to perform rapid alternating movements
Intention tremor
Usually VASCULAR/ Stroke
ANTERIOR LOBE SYNDROME
Loss of coordination chiefly in the lower limbs; marked gait instability
Sliding the heel of one foot smoothly down the shin of the other leg is extremely difficult for the patient to do
Toxic – Metabolic / Chronic Alcoholism
FLOCCULONODULAR LOBE SYNDROME
Truncal Ataxia
Neoplastic/ Medulloblastoma
